(We hate us too.)
Quality over everything
We worry less about the distribution of our macronutrients (carbs, fats, proteins) and more about their source. As is reflected in our menu, we believe in eating as unprocessed as possible. Everything (from our nice cream, to our granolas, drizzles, and nut milks) is made completely in-house using simple, whole ingredients. We only use naturally-occurring sweeteners such as dates, maple syrup and organic fruits, and follow an "if it comes from the ground, we're good" motto to provide you with a truly guilt-free solution for your sweet tooth.

In the summer of 2012 I had a double jaw surgery that restricted me to a liquid diet for about three months. Being stubborn and unaware of the difficulty that lied ahead, I refused to stay in the hospital for more than one night post-surgery when I had been expected to stay about a week. This meant that I was no longer hooked up to IV fluids and my nutrition was not assured. I became very weak when I returned home, as I was living in a haze of taking too many painkillers, sleeping through the majority of days, not knowing how to nourish myself through a liquid diet and barely syringing water and apple juice past my wired jaw for meals. I lost about 20 pounds within two weeks post-surgery - 20 pounds I certainly did not need to lose. I would only get up to go to the bathroom and even that made me feel faint and lightheaded. As I continued to lose weight and become progressively miserable, I knew something had to change, so I started with my diet. I began researching how to properly nourish oneself through a liquid diet, which lead me to discover coconut water, dates, fruits, vegetables and other ingredients that could be used to make a healthy and satisfying liquid meal. Here sparked my passion for smoothies. As I continued to incorporate these healthier alternatives into my diet, I found that I felt immediately better; I regained energy, my swelling significantly decreased, I started gaining healthy weight and, most importantly, I felt all around happier. This passion for smoothies and nutrition has only strengthened with time. Long after my jaw healed, smoothies remained a large portion of my diet because I continue to love how they make me feel. I eventually went to Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where I studied Human Health and Nutrition Science. Through this course of study, my understanding of food and health greatly matured. My studies and beliefs have ultimately lead me to a vegan diet because it works for me and makes me feel good. This is how I got creative and started to experiment with alternative, vegan-friendly solutions to satisfy my sweet cravings, which ultimately lead to the inception of banana-based nice cream and other kinds of raw vegan treats in my life. Today, I believe there is something really invigorating about taking a bite of food that makes you go "Oh my God!" with excitement, especially when you know exactly what ingredients have created this “Oh my God!” moment. I believe feeling 'healthy' (whatever that may mean to someone) is a really powerful and happy feeling and I want others to feel just that when eating my treats. The Harry Banana is my way of sharing my beliefs and journey with you all - and my love of healthy, organic foods that give us those "Oh my God!" moments of taste and joy.
